How is stamp duty calculated in Tasmania?
Tasmanian property transfer duty is progressive from a $50 minimum up to 4.5% above $725,000. The calculator applies the current SRO Tasmania rate table to the purchase price.
Do first home buyers pay stamp duty in Tasmania?
Yes, from 1 July 2026. The 100% duty exemption for established homes up to $750,000 ended for settlements after 30 June 2026 and was not renewed in the 2026-27 Budget. First home buyers building or buying a new home can get the $20,000 First Home Owner Grant instead.
How much extra do foreign buyers pay in Tasmania?
The foreign investor duty surcharge adds 8% of the property value on residential land, on top of standard duty. The calculator adds it when the foreign buyer toggle is on.
