About You
Your employer pays 12% on top as super
Contributions
Extra pre-tax contributions on top of employer super. If income plus before-tax super contributions is above $250,000, Division 293 can add 15% tax to some contributions.
Assumptions
Investment fee is a percentage of your balance. Admin fee and insurance are fixed dollar amounts deducted from your balance each year (check your fund's annual statement). Leave the dollar fields blank if you are not sure.
Defaults are general assumptions, not predictions. Adjust to match your fund and expectations.
Estimates only, not financial advice. Projections depend on assumptions that will not match reality exactly, and exclude the Age Pension, insurance premiums, and tax on investment earnings in pension phase. Consider seeking licensed financial advice.
Frequently asked questions
How much super does my employer have to pay?
The superannuation guarantee is 12% of ordinary time earnings from 1 July 2025. It is paid into your fund on top of your salary unless your package is quoted as super-inclusive.
Why does salary sacrifice save tax?
Salary-sacrificed contributions are taxed at 15% inside super instead of your marginal income tax rate. If your marginal rate is 30%, every dollar sacrificed saves about 15 cents of tax while adding to your retirement balance. The calculator shows the annual and lifetime saving.
What is the concessional contributions cap?
Employer contributions plus salary sacrifice count towards a $32,500 annual concessional cap (FY2026-27). Contributions above the cap are effectively taxed at your marginal rate, so the calculator warns you before you cross it.
What is the ASFA comfortable standard?
A benchmark retirement budget published by the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia, covering things like private health insurance, a reasonable car and an annual holiday. The calculator compares your projected retirement income against it to show whether you are on track.
Does the calculator include fees and Division 293 tax?
Yes. Enter your fund fees as a percentage investment fee plus fixed dollar admin and insurance amounts, and the projection deducts them from your balance each year. If your income plus before-tax contributions is above $250,000, Division 293 adds an extra 15% tax to the affected concessional contributions, and this is included in the projection and in the salary sacrifice saving. It is estimated from your salary only, so spouse income and other adjustments are not modelled.
Are the projections guaranteed?
No. They depend on assumed investment returns, fees, inflation and salary growth, and small changes compound over decades. Adjust the assumptions to see the range of outcomes, and treat the result as a planning guide.
