Your Wedding

You will need: overall budget, guest count, supplier quotes, payments made.

The guest count prices any cost you enter per guest. Change it and those costs update; payments already recorded stay as they are.

Expenses by Category

A starting list of categories, with no amounts. Open a category to add an expense, give it a name and a cost, and record each payment you make. Rename, add or remove anything to suit your wedding.

Every amount is one you enter: calx suggests no costs. This is a budget and payment calculator only. It does not manage suppliers, send reminders or keep a guest list. Your plan is saved in this browser on this device; nothing is stored on a server.

Frequently asked questions

How does the wedding budget calculator work?

Set an overall budget and a guest count, then add an expense under any category and subcategory: the florist, the venue, the dress. Give each expense its own name and either a flat cost or a cost per guest. Record each payment you make against it, such as a deposit and later instalments. The calculator adds up the planned cost, what you have paid and what is still owing, and shows how far the planned cost is under or over your budget.

Why does calx not suggest how much to spend on each category?

Wedding costs vary widely with the location, the season, the guest count and your own choices, and a suggested figure would read as a benchmark calx does not have. Every amount starts blank so the plan holds your own quotes and nothing else. The categories and subcategories are only a starting list: rename, add or remove any of them.

How are per-guest costs worked out?

An expense entered per guest, such as catering at $145 a head, is multiplied by the guest count and rounded to the cent. Change the guest count and every per-guest cost updates. Payments you have already recorded do not change, so if the guest count falls a per-guest expense can end up paid above its new cost, and the calculator shows that overpayment rather than hiding it.

How are deposits and several payments counted?

The cost of an expense is held once, and every payment you record against it reduces what is still owing on that expense. A $1,500 deposit and a $3,000 final payment on a $4,500 photographer leave nothing owing, and the photographer is counted once in the planned cost. A payment larger than the cost is shown as an overpayment on that expense and never reduces what you owe anyone else.

What happens to an expense with no amount yet?

It stays in the plan and is listed as having no amount yet, but it is not counted in the planned cost as zero. The same applies to a per-guest expense before you set the guest count. Any payment you record against it still counts as paid, and the totals say how much was paid against expenses that have no cost yet.

Is my wedding plan saved, and can I share it?

Your plan is saved in this browser on this device as you type, and nothing is sent to a server. Share makes a link that holds a copy of the plan. It is a snapshot, not a shared document: someone who opens it gets their own copy, and later changes on either side do not sync. A link has a length limit, so a very detailed plan can be too long to share as a link. For that, Save a backup file keeps the whole plan in a small file you can open again on any device with Restore from a file.

Does this keep track of suppliers, reminders or guests?

No. It is a budget and payment calculator only. It does not manage suppliers or bookings, send reminders, keep a guest list or create an account. Due dates are shown in the plan and the printout so you can see what is coming up, but nothing reminds you. Results are estimates from the figures you enter, not financial advice.
